Diorama Project
Dear Parents:
As you know, Multicultural Night is coming up! Our class is studying India. Next week we will be learning all about the Indian Culture! Students will be making Lap Books, as well as, other various projects to display.
Your child will NOT have math or reading homework on the week of May 7th. Instead, your child’s homework will be to create a Diorama! The Diorama is due on Friday, May 11th.
How to Make a Diorama
1) First, decide on what scene you will make. The scene you select can be anything related to India (landscape, food, culture, art, etc.)
2) Pick a box to use for your Diorama. The box needs to be large enough to accommodate the scene you selected, but small enough so that you don’t have excess space. If you use a shoebox that has a lid, you can increase the available space by laying the lid down to create a tray, then placing the box on its side inside the lid.
3) Plan what objects you will have inside your diorama and how you will place them by sketching it before you begin. Remember to place larger items in the back and smaller items in the front so that everything is visible.
4) Collect the materials you will need to create your diorama, such as paint, paper, clay, glue, small figurines, or materials from outside- moss, sticks, stones etc.
5) Begin to decorate your box. You will want to decorate the background of your diorama first, and work from the back of the box to the front. You can use clay, glue or other sticky materials to hold your objects in place. If you want something to look like it is floating or flying, use fish line to hang objects from the top of the box.
6) If you do not have figurines or other materials, you can draw objects on paper, cut them out and attach them to the bottom of the box. To do this, cut a small rectangular piece of paper, fold it in half, and glue one part of the rectangle to the paper object and the other part of the rectangle to the box.
Remember that your Diorama needs to show a scene that is related to India! Be creative and fun with this project! I can’t wait to see your Diorama!!!! J

A huge congratulations goes out to all the third grade students who mastered their multiplication facts during our multiplication sundae challenge! Way to go! We would also like to applaud all third graders for their dedication and hard work during the AIMS testing last month! Everyone did a fantastic job! Please remind your child to continue completing his/her reading and math homework at night. Your child will have homework until the last week of school. Dojo
Hello,
Our class is excited about a new program we'll be implementing. It's called Dojo. Dojo is a powerful class management tool that is entirely electronic. Student earn or lose points based on specific classroom behaviors and they get to choose their own avatars. In lieu of Character Cards, I'll be emailing behavior reports weekly. No more signing Character Cards! I hope you enjoy this new program. I know that the students love it.

Welcome Back!
I hope you all had a wonderful Spring Break!
It is hard to believe that March is almost over! The AIMS test is quickly approaching! Over the next few weeks, we will be reviewing concepts that have been taught throughout the entire school year in order to prepare your child for the AIMS test. Therefore; it is extremely important that your child comes to school with a positive attitude and ready to learn! Your child should continue practicing his/her multiplication and division facts. Playing games with flashcards is an easy and fun way to help him/her memorize his/her facts…you can even do it in the car! In addition, students should be reading AR books nightly for 20 minutes!
Let's get started with Quarter 4!!
